About Beulah
Beulah House was restored over 2 years with meticulous detail, retaining all its original features from nearly 200 years ago, but filled with the necessary luxuries for modern living.
All rooms have fine internal architectural features including Georgian fire surrounds, wide floorboards, high ceilings, cedar joinery, and large 12-paned windows, with views over the garden.
The house is painted in muted shades of green, with Georgian style wallpaper in selected rooms, all influenced by nature. The house is furnished with luxurious yet comfortable pieces, unique antiques, chandeliers, oil paintings, clocks, and wall sconces — every item has been carefully selected and purchased, supporting local businesses here in Tasmania.
When you arrive at Beulah House you will be transported to the past, as the house retains all the classical hallmarks of the Georgian vernacular – including symmetry, refinement and balance. Historically noted and architecturally significant, the house was built by convicts in 1847 and is entered on the Tasmanian Heritage Register. The entrance drive leads you into the property, occupied by a large two-storey home featuring a deep expansive verandah, French doors, and an original front door with elegant fanlights — a true reflection of Launceston’s architectural heritage.
The impressive entry hall leads you to a number of beautifully proportioned rooms; an inviting bright and large lounge room with a double bay window and a wood heater for cooler nights, and a dining room with a warm, welcoming chunky table to anchor the space for casual sit-downs or more formal dinner parties.
There is also a beautiful bedroom, luxury bathroom, laundry, a Georgian-style kitchen, breakfast room and cellar. This is just downstairs. Upstairs, the staircase leads to five other bedrooms — all with unique colours and personalities — two landings for reading or games, and two more large, luxurious bathrooms.
All three bathrooms have large double ended freestanding baths. The bathroom downstairs has a freestanding copper bath, which draws inspiration from a late 19th Century French bath.
Its deep base and curved sides inspire long hours of soaking in front of the open fire and large bay window. Upstairs, in the first bathroom, there is a large freestanding bath in willow green — a modern interpretation of a traditional Georgian style — which forms the centrepiece of the room. In the second bathroom upstairs, a freestanding cast-iron bath stands apart on wooden flooring in front of a large Georgian window, allowing guests to take full advantage of the mountain views outside — the perfect setting for a Northern Tasmanian getaway.
The established gardens are reminiscent of lush meadows, filled with a large collection of unique and classic plants. Paved pathways connect the garden rooms, and several magnolia trees frame the views toward the mountains. In the morning or before dining (or anytime really) relax on the wide, expansive verandah with original flagstones, overlooking the mature garden — a tranquil retreat in the heart of Launceston.
For the chefs and cooks, you can dine in at Beulah House. Try the Lacanche oven — handmade in Burgundy — or the large handmade pizza oven outside. The kitchen is filled with antique platters, copper pots and crockery, and multiple places to enjoy your creations — there are two large antique dining tables inside and two large iron tables outdoors. The house also features a beautiful herb garden with sweet basil, rosemary, and more, and two mature lemon trees. There is nothing better than going out with your antique basket and picking fresh herbs for dinner or the dining table.
During your stay we include thoughtful Tasmanian luxuries such as locally made body products, perfume, and linen sheets. On arrival you will receive a hamper filled with locally sourced Northern Tasmanian wine, sourdough bread, butter, honey, free-range eggs, award-winning cheese, relish, crackers, and milk. Guests can indulge in the wines we have hand-selected from the region during their stay.

Launched in June 2024, Beulah House has been lovingly restored to its unique Georgian beauty by owners Bec and David, and designer Belle Hemming Bright.
Beulah House is in a leafy central location, only a few minutes’ walk from Launceston CBD, yet it feels like being in the country.
It sits among some of Australia’s oldest and best-preserved heritage properties and is moments away from popular eateries, galleries, parks, and the famous Launceston Gorge.
It’s also a short drive to the Tamar Valley wineries, historic towns, Cradle Mountain, and breathtaking Tasmanian bushwalks — making it the perfect luxury accommodation base for exploring Northern Tasmania.
